    Great Britian took control of Central Asia because of a trading conflict with China. Great Britian used Central Asia's good like cotton and opium to solve the issue.
    The Indian people resented the British because they were making money off of them and opposing their values and customs. In 1857-1858, there was the Indian Mutiny, where the Indian people rebeled against the British. The Indians lost and the British got full control of India.
    Does Britain still control India today?

    Is this all they took over?
    What was the African territory being targeted for ? (What were the benefits and goals)
    Great Britain was taking over South Africa because;
    ...
    They beat France in the race for Africa.
    Africa was targeted by European countries because they all wanted a "Slice of pie". They all wanted exclusive trading grounds and natural resources in Africa that was not already taken by other countries. Some countries used indirect rule and other countries used direct rule. Direct rule required more military while indirect rule didn't require military. Direct rule was a better choice for the colonies in Africa because it would make the {Africa-in-1914.gif} Africa's territories in 1914 colony better protected and would be powerful when taking over other territories.
    what did Britain use
    These divisions in the photos below were were made by the berlin peace confrance. The peace confrance divided Africa by the first on who got to the area and set up a colony got the area. Everything but Ethiopia was claimed. Ethiopia was claimed by defeting Italy.

    go into more detail about why they started a policy of imperialism and how did they rule their colonies. Go into more detail about the obstacle to imperial rule.

    Germany began the policy of imperialism with Bismarck as their leader. When Germany began imperialism in Africa they established the Cameroons, German South-west Africa, and New Guinea. They did all of this in one year, 1884. The British and French were afraid that Germans were going to take over not only Africa, but Europe also. While Germany was concentrated on the Cameroons and Togo, Britain and France were concentrated on Congo, Egypt, and the Nigeria River areas. Germany then became the 3rd largest colonial power in Africa.

    Sphere of Influence: A third form of western control was the sphere of Influence, an area in which an outside power claimed exclusive investment or trading privileges.
    I believe that the end results of imperialism was that the African culture grew more efficiently. if the french had not taken over, i think that Africa would still live in small little villages. I think if France did not come in there wouldn't be many cultures there. the French taught the Africans French culture. It effects Africa in Present day because Africa has different languages and different cultures.
